"I wanted to transmit a summer indoor-outdoor lounge-by-the-sea-feel, very inviting and welcoming, yet keeping a very Scandinavian, pure and minimal essence."
The studio of Omayra Maymó explores the intangible relationship created between the object and its user departing with emotional aspects. The Spanish designer utilizes the natural qualities if materials, mixing narratively driven design with highly functional objects, her work promotes emotive-based design.
"There is a duality present through the double language formed by the lower main structure and the curvier and organic seat and backrest cushions, which aim to represent this merging of Scandinavian and Mediterranean spirits, and which provide a subtle dynamic design", explains Omayra.
Rounded edges and puffy cushions create a laid-back, fluid silhouette with a relaxed tone. The Bay sofa is all about comfort and a cushioned, welcoming look. The low frame har a distinct lounge feel, reinforced by the deep seat and low armrests. The wide, upholstered feet are a bold detail that makes for a unique silhouette.
"When designing the sofa, I took inspiration from the traditional white stucco, curved Mediterranean seaside architecture, very soft and laidback."
The fabrics and tones used for its upholstery also came from this luminous, soft inspiration. A delicate cotton linen mix fabric was chosen, with a soft touch and a fine texture, in rich, warm, neutral tones. In all, this sofa represents a calm and peaceful place to gather strength and find inspiration. It combines refined comfort, calm look, and optimal flexibility in a timeless design.
