Broste Copenhagen was founded in Copenhagen in 1955 by the entrepreneur Ulf Brøste, who had a knack for picking out small pieces of furniture, decorative interior items, trinkets, and gift items from his travels around the world. Inspired by the success of the Danish Modern movement, he decided to help aspiring talents with production and distribution alongside his own handpicked collections.
During the 1960s and 1970s, the company expanded with flagship stores around Copenhagen's canals, as well as imports of kilim rugs and vintage décor. During the 1980s and 1990s, focus shifted towards wholesale, and an in-house production of candles and gift items was established.
The Broste Copenhagen brand was established during the early 2000s, and it came to represent the brand's values and DNA. Ever since our main objective has been to provide great design solutions that are versatile and accessible, designed to complement Scandinavian easy living.
In 2010 Broste Copenhagen was acquired by Norwegian Gunnar Hillestad and Danish Kim Larsen. Ever since, Kim Larsen has led the company as CEO and visionary, ensuring that its legacy has been honoured while expanding its design ambitions. Today, Broste Copenhagen products are sold worldwide, and 95% of our products are designed in-house by our handpicked design team. Broste Copenhagen has become synonymous with easy living essentials, beautifully crafted tableware, handcrafted vases, mouth-blown glass, bespoke candles and colourful textiles.
So, if you want to create playful atmospheres, colourful table settings and welcoming furniture you'll want to chat, nap and unwind in, Broste Copenhagen is your design destination. Broste Copenhagen is all about cosy, contemporary design that makes everyday moments feel like special occasions.
